I don't know why.

This is badly drawn and the animation is awful.

but god help me, how I laughed.

wonderful

My friend sent me a link to this.

This was great. One good gag pulled off with the perfect timing. Not stretched out too long to be unfunny, nor too short to be spastic. Perfectly done.

Very good graphics as well. Good use of soft hazy colors and shading in areas with bright light. Good voice acting (although very quiet). While not alot of animation per-say, the animation that WAS in this was very well done and very smooth.

Some great dynamic camera angles as well.

Special part being watching the workers in the chairs facial expressions go from glee to sadness. That was magical. Good stuff.

ConAir responds:

Thanks, I made sure I put a lot of work into that last reaction shot because the whole movie basically revolves around that point. Glad you noticed Zekey, thanks for the review!

good!

I must say, this was very different. Not TOO serious and not TOO dark but still a scifi short with a more serious tone.
The animation itself wasnt too great. Too many tweens used for every little thing. It's ok to use some dynamic non-tween symbol animation here and there (like you did with her mouth) on other body parts. Makes the characters seem more alive.

Some very badass monster designs. But most especially the designs of the aliens lair and machinery. Really catchy and really definite color and shape themes that really pulled it together.
It seemed like most the time, the camera was going left and right and zooming in. Not too many other angles, so we see the same symbols and drawing get reused again and again. And while that looks nice in a commercial, its kinda bleh in a serious short cartoon.

Other than that, not too many qualms.

oy vey.

I find it kind of ironic that you put "Alvin Earthworm" as a special guest artist, considering that, other than one or two sprites, there is no original art to be found at all in this entire cartoon. Oh wait, I forgot, he does furry porn. MY BAD!

I dont know if the few original sprites in this cartoon were done by any of the three "artists" behind this sprite cartoon. That's really the only reason I am giving this a 3. Benefit of the doubt. Of course, considering the track record of the folk behind this, I'm probably wrong, and a quick google search will pull up the real pixel artists who put the sprites together.

The reason I doubt this is because the "cloaked figure" who turns out to be ROB in Brawl looks awful. His sprite is clearly made by someone who spent very little time dicking around in mspaint, and he stands out ALOT amongst all the smooth antaliased professionally done pixel art.

Of course, other than the original sprites (of which there were few), everything else here was obviously shanked off of SHY GUY KINGDOM or some other nostalgic 8-bit graphics warehouse.

So I cant really give you fellow a good score for graphics, because these graphics dont belong to you.
So time to move on to the plot/humor.
Nothing I havent seen in a thousand other sprite cartoons. Mario exploding, someone falling off a cliff, someone farting. Nothing here that hasnt been beaten like the dead horse it is.
I dont know why so many modern sprite artists do this. All the sprite cartoons these days either rely entirely on the lowest forms of slapstick or are chock-full-of plot to the point of being pretentious.
It's like you guys are just going through the motions and not having any fun.

And judging by how bored Pit and Snake sounded when they talked, I can only assume you were indeed NOT having any fun.

Pit sounded like a 14 year old hollering into a mic in a tiny room. So much static and noise. A few quick normalizations in some free sound editing software called "Audacity" could fix this. Its not like it'd take away much animation time to fix the sound, considering there's pretty much no animation in this at all.

I will say one thing, seeing the Captain Olimar sprite reminds me again how badly I wish Shigeru Miyamoto would hustle his drones to make a PIKMIN DS or something.

Sadly that has nothing to do with this poor flash. Poor even compared with most sprite cartoons. As much as I dislike Randy Solem, the guy knew how to time a gag and tell a joke, something lacking here.

But then, this review will just get deleted anyway, wont it? C'mon Mbot. Give me your best shot.

delicious

You know if this collab were a foxy lady, I would....well I cant say what I'd do. But I'm certain its outlawed in the bible.

Great collab. I loved every part (except for squeaky's guy on the chair with the guitar, sorry squeaky) I only...kinda liked...that part.

I liked R.Wappin's part the best. But only cause I'm a Wappin fanboy. Everything he does just makes me laugh. It's all so funny.

Also, butts. Don't forget those.

squeakytoad responds:

Everyone is a Wappin fanboy, wether they choose to admit it or not. Deep down- they are.

Also, the guy in the chair was lousy and uncreative. On the very last day I sat back and realized I'd only made a really short part for this collab. I had gotten so caught up in organizing, suggesting, collecting, compiling, working out bugs, fixing problems, etc, that I hadn't really made much. I didn't want to be one of those idiots who simply made a very small part (or none) and still claimed credit for a collab made on the backs of other people. So I took the two hours I had left and threw that together. In hindsight, bad idea.
Next collab, I'm packing it for at least two whole minutes of animation.

And yes, of course, butts.

quicker than a ray of light

I wanna push you around

I wanna push you down

I wanna take you for granted
yeah yeah well I will

hooray

I was wondering just the other day when you were going to submit a new flash.

This was unexpected.

Very short but cute.

wait a minute

wait one freakin minute!

why....this dog...why this dog isn't badly drawn at all.

You sir are a liar. A lying liar with pants aflame. BURN LIAR. BURN.

also good cartoon.

Staggering!

Marvelously silly, extravagant smooth animation, and preposterous sillyness.

If only all flash-tag collabs were like this.

also I now know that inside of every squirrel lives an even tinier squirrel.
What kind of fucked up evolution causes such an animal.
WHAT KIND OF GOD WOULD ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN?
WHY??? WHY???

ok im done

entertaining

you know just the other night when I was in the Cheesebin/BeesChin/Cheesebear/Sloth I was thinking to myself "haroshi hasnt made a cartoon in forever, maybe he lost his hands in a chainsaw juggling accident"

I am glad I was proven wrong. This was very inspired and quite funny. Some great animation during the dream sequence as well.
Also some GREAT musical choices to fit the moods of the scenes. Very good.

Haroshi responds:

Thanks a lot Zekey, it means a great deal to hear encouraging words from you.
You are responsible for some of the inspiration I got to make animation after all. :p

And yes I really should of uploaded some animation sooner, it has been 1 and a half years. :o
But I guess I got bored of some of the projects I started, except this one which I was determined to finish.

Anyway thanks for the kind words, and I promise to get some toons out more regularly in the future. ;)

p.s. I did loose my hands but then got them replaced with a couple of tablet stylus's
