things like this remind me why

I will never ever make a forum. Ever.

Period.

Hmm. Theme.

On the surface it's obvious (to those with an imagination) that the people on the seat ride are heading to the afterlife having been deceased for whatever reason. They are split into groups. Some got to go in the large tower with the elevator inside which the viewer assumes goes to heaven.
The others are stuck in their crates.
At first one assumes that these ones are going to hell, but there is a distinct lack of pain, or regret. Only silence and people whispering amongst themselves. No emotion.
I believe that place the ones in the crates went to to be purgatory.
The reason they are there isn't known, except for the old man. When the lights go on in the room, the flashback shows his death, which one assumes was suicide. People don't just unintentionally fall off bridges after all.
I think the theme has to do with how in many religious scriptures it is said that those who kill themselves are stuck in limbo or purgatory. A quiet place between heaven and hell where there is nothing.
They are stuck there, only with their own thoughts. The old man is left with memories of his life and his death when he gave up.

Am I anywhere near correct on what you were trying to convey here or am an idiot and way way off?

also, good cartoon, very stylized, you always make good stuff etc etc blah.

AtmosGames responds:

You are right in a sense. The old man was a "good guy" yes and preached and junk, but when tested with pain and the death of his child, he "gave up" on Jesus. but the point is Jesus didnt give up on him. he weant to heaven. boo ya end of story. ya and also this: many religous scriptures and idiots talk about suicide leading to hell, but the point is the bible never talks of suicide, which made this movie a bit tricky for some.

mmm

the goatse collab this brought back fond memories of

TheSoulMan responds:

best collab ever really

cute

gotta like these shorts that have a bit of cryptic ending

I can see the colorless characters and grey shades were a design choice.

overall it was cute.

the only thing you might want to remember, is that if you are gonna import a bitmap into flash, make sure it's HUGE so when you zoom in, it doesn't get all pixxely.

Of course for all I know, that might have been intentional.

good day!

Lambinvoker responds:

Thanks a bunch for reviewing, Zekey. Means a lot to me. =)

cute

Probably not the reaction you want, but the wee superdeformed character styles, and the black and white design make everything in this look so huggable.

yep.

and i am out of things to say.

JohnnyUtah responds:

i thought i read "huggable" as "horrible" for a sec

close one

thanks zekey

....

......tricky the fuckin clown.

Sqeezy responds:

DAMN YOU TRICKY! If I see that fucking clown one more time..

not a cartoon.

one of the nice things about the internet, is that we aren't tethered to the constraints of some teacher or company or rulebook giving us limits or guides on what we can or should or cant or should not do with the tools in front of us.
Even better, is that due to this, artistic concepts can be reached with no ramifications other than time spent. That said, it's a wonder little arty things like this aren't made more often.
first, as I said in your ng blog journal thing, props on using subtle. I have yet to hear a song by them I dislike.
as for the flash itself, it was a very very clever take on what most people who use music videos do wrong.
when people make a music video it usually falls into one of the two categories:

A.) someone just animated the lyrics with nothing to attract the viewers attention

B.) someone animates the lyrics exactly as they are as opposed to interpreting them in some creative fashion.

Alot fall into these categories. Alot of my own shite falls into column B.

What's neat is what you've done here, is do something witty with the lyrics. As the song changes, so does the way the words appear on the screen. The words actually evolve with the song. It's very entertaining, like being in a maze of words.

That, and there's some nice psychedelic eye candy in the backround for those who don't feel like reading.

It all comes together quite nice.

also, butts.

notorious responds:

Thanks for the awesome review, man. One of the most detailed so far, as is expected from someone talented in animation themselves.

Can't wait to see more from yourself!

oh yeah and eat my asshole you fujcker
