i was actually just thinkin the other day "when is foxcato going to make another one his arty poetic flash cartoons"
what a treat to see this when I got home from work.
I really like the character design of the little fellow in this. Very cute and harmless.
You did some more traditional animation in this too, which is different.
I think the only problem is, due to some reason, your credits at the end are literally only half-there.

I see... that's very odd because the credits work perfectly when I watch them.
I just worked a bit with them and updated the movie here on NG. Hopefully they work for everybody now.

A nice moody little cartoon
very relaxing.
from a technical standpoint impressive, considering its like 50% masking and 50% bitmaps and yet isnt 99999999 gigabytes in size, considering how poorly flash exports masks and bitmaps.
it reminds me a of a cartoon called PAPER SKY thats here on newgrounds and atomfilms as well
good stuff all around
good choice of music as well
few cartoons use jazz or the blues which is a bit of a shame as they are some of the most pure sound around

I got really worried about filesize at one point when I was watching the SWF export, I had the window where it shows you the filesize open, and as it went up it passed 10 MB and went all the way to 10.9, so I was like, OH DAMN. but then some how (?? I still don't know how, haha) when I checked it again it was 9.5, which was really bizarre.
I love paper sky. its beautiful. I saw it on atomfilms when I was like, 8 and it amazed me. that was before I started animating stuff. I guess if you put two and two together you could say that thats one of the subtle pieces that influenced me. I hadn't thought of that before.
newgrounds should have a jazz day. like madness day or whatever except for jazz. cause you're right, theres like, none of it around here.
oh and btw, you totally blocked me from your userpage >:( I think I told you to get a wacom or something a while back. but Im still banned! :P

What do you do your keys on? 2's or 3's?
also are you sure a dvd is a good idea? that could cost you a relative fuckton and put you in a hole for the rest of your life. happened to someone I know.

I run at 20 fps (weird I know) on 2's. Sometimes 1's for really quick or subtle stuff.
The DVD is on hold for a lot of reasons, that being one of them. Funding has always been an issue and it's an issue I'm not prepared to deal with right now. I have to make a few investments in other things before I can even think of funding a DVD, but the posbility is still there, just far off.
Basically it's on hold because I'm not so sure it IS a good idea... right now.

Much like "Kids say the Dardest Things" and some documentaries, there's always something refreshing about listening to a child explain something.
They're innocent to most of the troubles of the world and aren't conniving enough to do things that are passive aggressive. They have such a natural curiosity and frank way of putting things.
Combining this with a cartoon was a fantastic idea.
It's funny to hear them discuss things like art, which usually when discussed it so pretentious you cant stand it.
It was also heartwarming to hear a child say his favorite cartoon character was The Roadrunner. After 50 years, kids still love looney toons. That is really wonderful and a testament to the quality of those old classics.
The animation in this was top notch as well. Smooth and fluent and cute. I assume these drawings were charicatures of the kids who were interviewed. And I assume you combined the flash animation with the video footage using Aftereffects.
Really got a kick out of the facial expressiong you gave the two girls at the end. Really nailed that whole "how can I insult my crabby teacher without being a jerk" look.

thanks for the thoughtful review.. yeah they are rough charicatures based on the kids themselves, some bear very close resemblance, some not so much, but in the end I was focusing on how their appearance should parallel their personalities and how they compare/match with eachother.
You assume correctly that I used after effects, very badly however as I had to work it out myself and ended up using like 30 layers. Publishing the whole thing takes about 30-40 minutes and I had to republish around 4 times to get it perfect.... ugh..

how do I know this?
well you see i have this boil on my forhead and it's pretty malignant, and it's been blowin up to like a hooj size.
and then i watched this and it fell off and grew little legs and did a little jig and hopped off the table and ran out the door giggling wildly
and that is what happened.
