i got to go to a midnight showing of this film last night

pixar's weirdest and most creative film i'd say
really unconventional and painfully cute

its a love story between two robots. its also odd cause they use some live-action in it as well.
it felt like something Kubrik would have made
really great technological designs and animation throughout

i highly recommend seeing it. (good date movie)
one of pixar's best
also there was a badass short in front of it called Presto that was hyper and hilarious and very loony-toons esque. it also reminded me of a recent popular pc game

so a company contacted me today.
asking if I would do some freelance paintings for them.

i am happy because:

A.) this is the first time a company has actually contacted ME to do something. usually its the other way around with me begging for a job and never getting it. i said yes, of course.

B.) its halloween themed. and the content of the paintings is definitely right up my alley.

C.) something professional done for an actual big company means something to put on my portfolio. i'll have something to put on my empty list of achievements other than "hurr durr i got 4th place in an internet contest derp"

i am scared as hell because:

A.) they want the painting to be realistic. and the closest thing to realism I've managed to do is this and this. And both of those came about by sheer luck.

B.) they want the painting seperated and saved into layers so that they can have all the layers working in flash. which means I cant use Art Rage (as far as I know there's no way to save art rage files as photoshop or paintshop files with the layers intact) which means I cant use the software I used to do both of the above paintings. I dont know if I can go back to using photoshop or paintshoppro without making some hideous monstrosity.

can i complete the job and get paid? will i pull it off without fucking it up? will the justice league ever find out who killed the elongated man's wife? STAY TUNED TO FIND OUT.

EDIT:
update. it appears they sent me an attachment in their email that I did not notice which answered the 500 questions I asked in reply to their email and now they've stopped contacting me.
I done fucked up again. How glorious.

oh well.
i'll make another 'great cartoons' post soon probably.

I forgot what number I was on and I am too lazy to go back and see how I was numerating these. So from now on I will simply label them as letters. Thus clearing up all confusion.

Okay.
So.

Here we go.
I havent done one of these in a while for a few reasons. Mainly I really havent felt like it. And secondly alot of the stuff I'd like to show you guys isn't available on youtube or any of the other video sites ng blogs can link to.
(these NG blogs really need an image tag btw. this whole 'upload 1 pic' thing is silly).

so anyway without further adieu, here's some stuff.

First thing is Bingo the Clowno.
Chances are a few of you have seen "Ryan" if not, well you should.
Bingo was shown on the scifi channel a few years ago. It's a great old 3d animated short film based on the play 'disregard this play"
It always brings a smile to my face.

.
/* */
Next here is the music video for the song "Trouble" by Coldplay. It's a combination of live action and alot of mixed media animated bits all combined together for a very dreamlike music video. And the song is kinda catchy as well.
The part with the crow feathers looks so cool

.
/* */
I've loved everything Craste makes. I'd really like to see what he'd do with a feature film, with noone restricting his imagination. This is a commercial he did for the Lottery a bit more than a year ago. I really adore the almost seuss-like whimsicalness of it.
You can see a VERY NICE quicktime version of this on Studio AKA's website. If you dont know who Studio AKA is, you should. Since they do the most varied and great commercial work out there.

.
/* */
Fargal Ex is a crazy artist and flash animator who has his own very weird style of doing things. Along with doing very stylized epic art, he also does on occasion some brilliantly animated films. I am nearly certain he uses flash for almost all of them.

.
/* */
this is also by him. you can see a much nicer version on his deviantart page

.
/* */
he also does lots of hilarious short stupid things like this

.
/* */
I've shown you guys things by Studio 4c before. the trailer for Mindgame I posted before and I sent you guys their Noiseman Sound Machine short.
This is another short brilliantly animated crazy thing by them.

.
/* */
i wish to one day dance like this crazy old man stirring the curry

.
/* */
And now ladies and gentlemen,
A hippo peeing it's pants
I dont know why but I felt very sad for this crudely drawn hippo. damn you japan. toying with my emotions.

.
/* */
A nice person actually linked me to this, when I did my first 'great cartoons' post. And its so cool, it'd be a shame not to share it with everyone.
I'm pretty certain the people behind this also made those two "At Least I'm Alive" shorts that are on Newgrounds.

.
/* */
Of Montreal

.
/* */
Rhapsody in Blue
from Fantasia 2000.
now in "UBER BLURRY QUALITY"
if you have not seen fantasia 2000, do so

what if i had no hands

and i dont mean like what if i were born without them i mean what if they just ceased to exist right here and right now

or at least the current one. would the turmoil that goes through ones mind each time one makes anything stop, if one lost the ability to make anything

would i in turn, be more content in a way, that despite having no outlet for arty things, were to instead focus on things one has neglected like trying to find peace, or making a name for oneself
would it be a good idea, if one had the ability to go back to events in ones life and warn your younger self

what is being content, if not a complete absence of thought? a passion only drives one to produce. and producing means stress. and second-guessing ones own motives during the process. like a constant fight that never stops because noone will pick a side.
would being content not be the same as being dead inside?
just silence.
the mind has shut itself up and is no longer allowed to speak.
thats right brain, you get to shut the fuck up.

it is the brain that controls the hands. and it is the hands that feel the need to produce things as an outlet. and this sets the whole loop in motion.

BUT THEN THE BRAIN REGRETS IT. the hands dont because they are fucking hands and they cant fucking think for themselves.

you can train them but they cant think for themselves

millions of years of evolution and no autopilot.
without hands though wouldnt the brain simply fill up until it found another outlet.

OR would the mind simply no longer need an outlet. does it only need itself. if it only needs itself, then it would be content. it wouldnt have to second guess itself because it already KNOWS and thats why its so brilliant.
eventually it'd have no need to think or feel and would shut down.

and thats when one would become content.
at least when it comes to brain shit
preserving itself. quitting while its ahead. realizing WHY it doesnt HAVE to do what it does.

wouldnt that be perfect?
to be mindless?
to have no worries or thoughts or emotions or anything at all?

why...

....dare I say.....

......it would almost be as glorious....

......as this gif

a concept i've been brainstorming

If you died tomorrow, would anyone care?

Would anyone that matters care?

Do you care about the people who would care if you died tomorrow?

something to think about.

unless you are rich.

or else one day you'll wake up realizing you only have 33 bucks to live off of for the next few weeks.

and then you'll say many many many bad words.
loudly.
and wake up sleeping neighbors.

and they wont be too happy.

never go to college

hum dee dum doo dee doo
here we are again

Alright the first thing I am going to post is a new music video that has emerged onto the internet. It's only like 5 days old. But oh god I love it so much already. Its so cute and great and well designed and blarhgohohohohhooooodfgfgg

.
/* */
This next thing is a puppet and not really a cartoon but it is responsible for MANY a sleepless night lately.
Turn off all the lights and watch it:

.
/* */
Eddie Fitzgerald made this short for the WHAT A CARTOON show a long time ago.
Not only is it very VERY well animated but its also amazingly deranged and has a sick sense of humor.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? YOU FIIIIILTHY CHILDREN!?!!?!

.
/* */
And here is BOID N WOIM, another WHAT A CARTOON I loved. And it's completely opposite in style and humor to the previous worm toon. I really love the very simple backrounds in this.

.
/* */
The Cat came Back. Chances are you've seen this as it's become a bit of a cult classic. Good old canadian animation from the 80's. Cordell Barker made this.

.
/* */
Richard Condie made this. The Big Snit.
Chances are you've also seen this. Both of these used to get shown on Cartoon Network on a show called O' Canada.
I really wish the sawing tv channel existed.

.
/* */
One of the cartoon network groovies. "Rollin" featuring clips from Betty Boop.
It'd be neat to see a black and white cartoon show get made in this day and age but I doubt it will ever happen.

.
/* */
BALLOON LAND
This full color cartoon is trippy as hell. And action packed. My parents actually recorded this on VHS for me years ago. All the scenes are mesmerizing. So much is going on at once.

.
/* */
Little Black Sambo
Only posting this because old-school racism amuses me to no end.

.
/* */
This next cartoon is a special one. This cartoon took 10 years to complete. The animator of this cartoon was blind and deaf and mute. But one day God came to him and said "Thou shalt see. Thou shalt hear. Thou shalt speaketh sounds. And thou shalt maketh this cartoon. I shit thee not. Make it or I shall smite you good."
And the animator complied. This cartoon won a total of 15 oscars, a record that has yet to be broken.
This cartoon has been shown to lower blood pressure, boost fertility, and slow aging. It has also been reported to cure cancer.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I hope you all enjoy

'dancing turtle'

.
/* */
The Tell Tale Heart is one of those stories that been retold a bazillion gazillion times. Poe was a fucked up chap.
I've always been fond of this one. (UPA)

.
/* */
Jojo in the Stars
I actually have this on DVD. Figures it'd be on youtube illegally. Jojo is made by Marc Craste, from Studio AKA
He makes all sorts of crazy little cartoons. He's great. This cartoon is a mini movie and the finale of his PICAS TOWERS series on Studio AKA's website. Studio AKA have made, literally, hundreds of amazingly creative commercials and short films. They are my favorite indy studio.

.
/* */
And to finish this post, a couple of Mickey Cartoons I have always liked.
Boat Builders

.
/* */
Runaway Brain

.
/* */
i think that's enough for this week.

Yep.

Yep yep.

Time for another one of these.
I am trying to decide if I want to keep these around 9-12 videos each time. I could easily go longer or shorter, but the longer they are the more the site lags and the shorter they are, the less cool crap I can show you guyz.

Anyway, PART 4 OF COOL STUFF

London is under siege:

.
/* */
Michel Gagne has been working on a game version of his only-seen-on-nicktoons-network-during-
halloween series, Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppet Show. When this game will be out, who can say. The updates to his site are sporadic at best.
But you can see a nice teaser here. Yes, the show looked exactly like this. And yes, its Flash.

.
/* */
Medical Island is a korean flash animated cartoon show that I found right after I made "The Morgue"
It reminded me alot of the Morgue and I loved the simplisticly creepy iconic designs all the characters had. It was made by Studio Animal who have pulled alot of the Medical Island stuff off their site when they signed up with Zango (some bothersome flashplayer wannabe thing). Luckily most of it ended up on youtube. They are all very short. Roughly 2 minutes long.
Episode 1:

.
/* */
Episode 2:

.
/* */
Quite a good handful of these were released and then they stopped.

.
/* */
but enough about those

_______________

Dollface by http://www.andrewthomashuang.com THAT GUY
A crazy 3d animated short. Very freaky.

.
/* */
The Dover Boys of Pimeno University.
Probably one of the best cartoons ever made by the late Chuck Jones
DRAT THOSE DOVER BOYS. THEY DRIVE ME TO DRINK!

.
/* */
Sweet Smoke by Mr.Scruff
Scruff is a UK electronic musician. He has a site full of these cure little oval characters.
Here is a music video by him

.
/* */
Basin Street Blues is a tune remixed by Kid Koala, who has made all sorts of stuff. He was in town actually the other night at the Crow Bar. I wanted to go see his live show but couldn't. Now he's in Canada. BAH!
Anyway, he is related to Monkmus who is a great flash and traditional animator. I've always liked this film by them:

.
/* */
Efterklang Mirador
BigArmyBug (now just Bug) linked me to this one day and said "I bet you'll like this"
He was fuckin right. >:C

.
/* */
Dont you hate it when you land on a planet in outer space and its got hot fairy chicks who party with you and then it turns out they're actually flesh eating robots?

.
/* */
An Eye For Annai
Everyone hates the music in this. I think its cute.
I showed this to my friend Mike and he proceeded to narrate everything on the screen in a weird voice. That has nothing to do with the cartoons, which is very sweet and has a childrens book feel to it.

.
/* */
Mad Rhetoric
You gotta love old-school Toonami. Back when it was run by adult swim people and Tom didnt look like a lego man.

.
/* */
And finally this spasticly entertaining music video david firth made a long ass time ago:

.
/* */
And that's it for this week. Tune in next week where my guests will be Wonder Woman, and a giant talking clitoris.

Actually let me add one more film.

The Film "Robotno is visited by Aunt Flo" is a film made in 1957. It is the only animated film to have been worked on by Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Grim Natwick and Walt Disney himself. They started working on the film in 1948, but an animators Strike made it slow moving. The 4 animators had to work on the film all by themselves.
When it was finally released "Robotno is visited by Aunt Flo" won 4 Academy Awards, the only film to do so. When Walt died he actually requested a drawing of Robotno to be chiseled on his gravestone instead of Mickey Mouse. That was the kind of bond they shared.

.
/* */
